The Borno State Police Command has recovered 147 undetonated explosives popularly called Cluster Ordinances (UXOS) in Sumo village close to Kansas town of Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, north-east Nigeria.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clement Adoda, said this on Tuesday in his office at the Borno State Police Command Maiduguri, while briefing newsmen.
He said, “At about 9am on Sunday the 8th of February 2015, one hundred and forty seven (147) Unexploded Cluster Ordinances (UXOS) were recovered at about 2 kilometers away from Sumo village near Janaka, Konduga LGA, of Borno State by a combined team of Bomb Disposal Unit Policemen with troops attached to Janaka general area and the explosives were recovered and destroyed in good time without injuries or damages to lives and property.
“The State Bomb Disposal Team has also recovered unexploded ordinance (UXOS) believed to have been launched during the 1st February 2015 Boko Haram attacks on Maiduguri city in one of the boys quarters at the residence of the State Director of NYSC, Alhaji Rises Lawan on 4th February 2015 at about 4.55 pm along Damboa road, Maiduguri.
“Accordingly, the ordinance was rendered safe without damages to lives and property”, Adoda said.
While appreciating the cooperation rendered to security operatives by the people of the state, the CP maintained that “this feat would not have been achieved without the timely rendering of information to security agents by members of the public”.
He hoped that such would be maintained to further improve the much desired search for lasting peace in the state and the country as a whole.
Mr Clement Adoda urged the citizens of the state to promptly alert security operatives whenever items or packages suspected to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) are discovered in their domains, stressing that such would greatly avert further destruction to lives and property in the state.
Reacting to the postponement of the general elections, the CP said “It has given the security enough time to prepare while the eligible voters will also have enough time to collect their PVCs.”
He commended the people of Borno State for not reacting to the postponement of the election, “It is an indication that we are going matured democratically and I hope this will be maintained.”
The CP appealed to the public to be more matured at all times. He also gave an assurance that security agents would continue to do their best to safeguard the lives and property of the citizenry.
